I love traveling, but being at the airport and on the plane and not having a real bathroom and bed is stressing.

So here are some of my travel hacks for long distance flights, which might also work for you:

  • Face masks

Yes, totally a fan of face masks on the plane or even eye pads. They are just perfect to protect your skin from dehydration and add a bit of freshness to your look, because you should better not wear make up while traveling. You are not able to remove the make up from your skin on the plane or on your trip and that will leave the skin dried up. So these face masks (preferably sheet masks) are the perfect way of giving your skin that extra kick on the plane and looking refreshed upon arrival.

I love the face masks of pathology, because they have a great range of products, that work for everybody. They even have a on the fly kit, with the travel essentials you need for long distance flights. I tested this kid and I loved it. I really enjoyed the cooling effect of the eye pads and the extra hydration for my lips of the lip patch.

  • Duty free shopping

Something I really love during my time at the airport is duty free shopping. Because I don’t have to pack these things in advance and can get them at a lower price in the airport as carry on. Usually the duty free shops offer great deals on your products. I love going to World Duty Free (it is the duty free shop I find at most airports I travel to) and got some things there on my way to bali.

When I travel my skin needs extra hydration, because of the air-conditioning at the plane and the sun. I loved using Clinique moisture surge, because it is pure refreshment and hydration for your skin. The Clinique travel box with all products you need for your skincare routine is also very practical. Those things are great finds at duty free shops. When I travel and when I am in the sun I only use a bit of make up. The YSL Travel Selection Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils is perfect for traveling. They make your lashes vavaboom and you look amazing, without doing a lot of eye-make up. I also love using natural colors on my lips and the Clarins Travel Exclusive Instant Light Lip Perfection Collection is totally my thing. Two natural and beautiful colors for your lips, that nourish, repair and protect them.

  • Shampoo bars and soap

You can bring shampoo bars and soaps in your carry on bag and don’t have to pack it in the luggage, because it is not liquid. So whenever you feel like doing some body care at the airport you can use it and it is also a way of decreasing your plastic consumption. They don’t take as much space as liquid shower gel or shampoo and work just as fine as your usual things. So in case your luggage gets lost, you don’t have to worry about these things.

  • Foldable water bottle

First of all, I am a fan of reducing plastics whenever I can. Second in lots of countries water is only available in water bottles made of plastic. So my travel hack is to use a foldable water bottle, which I can use before security, refill after security and also use during my vacation. I can refill my bottle during travels and reduce my plastic consumption and the foldable bottle does not need a lot of space in my carry on bag.

  • Your baggage

Mark your baggage as fragile. This is something I learned recently ago from a friend who found it to be a great way to ensure that your baggage is handled correctly. I also use colorful belts on my luggage so that it stands out and I can find it easily on the belt and nobody will mistake it with their luggage.

  • Shampoo for cleaning your clothes

Yes, shampoo is a great way to clean your clothes. You are bringing it anyway and it is a fast and easy way to clean your clothes overnight.

  • Inform your credit card company

Call your credit or debit card company before you leave to ensure that you have your card authorized for your foreign destination. This prevents them from suspecting suspicious activity. Happened to me a lot of times now and saved me a lot of trouble and money.

  • Bring a luggage scale

Especially for those, who tend to pack too much or love getting gifts. You are standing at the airport for the check in and your luggage is too heavy. Unpacking it again in front of other travelers is annoying. So save yourself the trouble and bring a small luggage scale, weight your luggage the day before you leave and repack it then (if it is necessary).

  • Pack some undies in your carry on bag

Happened to me: my luggage got lost (for three weeks) and I literally only had the clothes I was wearing. So from that day on I started packing one outfit and some undies in my carry on bag, just in case my luggage gets lost again. Trust me it happens and the moment you are standing there with nothing is not a good start for your vacation.
