Eating Out
Since we were based in Corralejo I am only able to give you some recommendations about food there. However these places are absolutely worth a visit.
Tapas – Olivo Corso
Olivo Corso is a cute tapas restaurant in El Cotillo. We really liked it since they offer a huge range of tapas. Absolute must are the typical Canarian papayas con mojo rojo.
Mexican – Malverde Taqueria
If you like tacos and quesadillas – well this is the place. Actually Malverde Taqueria is a bit hidden in the older part of Corralejo but always packed and so yummy. They offer tacos, quesadillas, nachos and everything is fresh made. Worth the hype!
Chic dining – Platanera
Platanera is a very chic and modern restaurant with fusion kitchen. There is also the rooftop bar The Roof in the same building – the perfect spot for a sundowner and good music.
Tapas Bar – 13 Bistrot & Tapas Bar
13 is my lucky number and this tapas bar is the absolute must if you are in Corralejo. the food is amazing and you better make a reservation – because this place is packed – all the time.
Backery – La Ola
Located at the harbour of Corralejo you will find this German Backery. And what can I say it is delish. Perfect spot for breakfast and brunch and everything is fresh baked. If you want to try a typical Spanish breakfast go for the bread with tomato sauce and olive oil.
Places to shop
In general there are cute and bigger shops over the entire island – it just really depends on what you are looking for.
The Canary Islands are well known for their duty free shop experience but I believe that is just when you look at fragrances, skin care and souvenirs.
In Corralejo there are several shopping streets with nice stores and a shopping center as well with fashion stores like Zara, Mango etc.
Something I have to recommend as shopping must however is Aloe Vera. You will find a huge selection of Aloe Vera factory outlets on the island and it is absolutely worth it. Nowhere else you will finde 100 % pure Aloe Vera Gel. I have used Aloe Vera in my skincare routine for ages and I absolutely believe that it has helped my skin ever since.
Another place I would like to recommend if you want to do some shopping is El Cotillo. It’s more a surf spot but there are some really nice smaller shops there with swimwear and local products, which I really liked.
What to do
Watersports
First of all if you like surfing and wind/kitesurfing Fuerteventura is the prefect island for you. Just plan for the right timing (surfing in winter and wind/kitesurfing in spring/summer) and you will not be disappointed. There are surf sports for every level and you can either go for a reef or beach break.
If you are into kitesurfing Playa de Sotavento is worth the trip. In full and new moon the entire lagoon is flooded and is the perfect flat water spot for practising.
Visit Lanzarote
So you can actually take a ferry in Corralejo and visit the neighbouring island Lanzarote in just 20 minutes. So either island hopping or a day trip it is.
Another tour or island you can visit is Isla de los Lobos – there are tours offered throughout the entire day and you can also snorkel and have a paella lunch break on the boat.
Island road trip
There are so many beautiful spots and beaches on Fuerteventura – so just pack for the day, hop into your car and go wherever you feel like going. Have a tour around the island, stop wherever you want and enjoy the freedom.
Beach Cleanup
Did you know that Clean Ocan Project was actually initiated on the Canary Islands?
In Corralejo there is a store of the Clean Ocean Project where you can buy some sustainable products (also made from the plastic trash they collect during their beach cleanups). They also regularly organise beach cleanups and I believe we should all join these if we can. Of course you can always take trash with you when you are on the beach and do your own beach cleanup but I also like the vibe these group cleanups give you. It’s time to give back – and we all want the beaches to remain beautiful and clean.
I would like to point out one thing – this blogpost is written not to trigger anybody when it comes to negative feelings about lockdown or Corona. It is rather a source of inspiration. Whether you want to travel in the future or are able to travel now. I kindly ask you to respect the local Corona rules as well as current travel restriction
